Advanced Medical Science or BSc Honours ProjectPlease note: see also projects under PhD What is the effect of secondary elbow, wrist and hand surgery for children with Obstetric Brachial Plexus Palsy?Contact person: Dr Andrea Bialocerkowski (from May 2006) This is an honours or AME project. Currently children with Obstetric Brachial Plexus Palsy (OBPP) under go secondary surgery in order to increase the functional use of their affected upper limb. There are a number of surgical procedures that could be undertaken. However there is no synthesis of the effectiveness of these procedures, which makes does not provide guidance regarding the most appropriate treatment for these children. This project involved synthesising all available evidence regarding the effectiveness of secondary elbow, wrist and hand surgery for children with OBPP, and follows on from our previous systematic reviews on the effectiveness of primary surgical and conservative management and secondary shoulder surgery in this same population. This information will ultimately be used to construct a clinical guideline for the management of children with OBPP. |
