Movement Laboratory
Safety Responsibilities of Researchers
- All researchers should have received CPR
training and be confident about the
procedure. If
you have not been trained in CPR, or
are not sure about your abilities - you must
speak to the lab manager before conducting
any research.
- All researchers should know emergency
procedures (medical, fire, security)
as they relate to the movement laboratory.
- All staff and students must be familiar
with the front and rear fire exits,
and in particular how to exit the building
from the ground floor front door (front
fire exit stairwell) and ground floor
side door (rear fire exit stairwell)
- All subjects and patients
must be registered as a VISITOR at reception upon arrival
at the School.
- All researchers should
have received sufficient training with relevant research
equipment to be comfortable with operating
it safely and efficiently.
- All researchers must PREPARE FOR EMERGENCIES
specific to their own project. Consult
with the lab manager if your research
has specific or greater than usual emergency
considerations.
- All researchers should be able to locate
the nearest:
TELEPHONE - Emergency
phone numbers are listed on the
wall
FIRE ALARM - Beside
the back lift (Break glass to activate)
LAB EMERGENCY ALARM - Attached
to the centre pillar (see details
below)
FIRST AID KIT - Minimum
facilities attached to central
pillar, full kit next to front door.
FIRE BLANKET - Attached
to Central pillar
FIRE EXTINGUISHER
- Attached to Central
pillar, and beside back lift
- If you have any concerns about the location
or proper use of these items, consult the
laboratory manager before conducting any
research.
- When CONDUCTING RESEARCH AFTER
HOURS, there must be at least one other staff
member in the laboratory or, with the
lab manager's prior permission, elsewhere in
the building but accessible by phone.
- Report
to the lab manager if there are any technical or safety issues
with the movement laboratory.
Other Responsibilities:
- BACKUP your own research data and
DELETE unused files from research computers. It
is your responsibility to backup your
own data.
- Inform the lab manager if
you have used up any general lab
consumables.
- Purchase or arrange your
own purchase of consumables specific
to your research project.
