Introduction to Undergraduate Studies

Welcome to the Undergraduate Program at the School of Physiotherapy, The University of Melbourne!

The Bachelor of Physiotherapy is a fixed four-year program which is offered on a full-time basis only. Approximately 100 students enrol each year. Being a small school we develop great relationships with our students and are able to offer extensive support throughout the course. The school also has excellent relationships with its associated clinical facilities and professional bodies.

The School of Physiotherapy has a received worldwide recognition for our innovative teaching programs and extensive clinical program, which is incorporated into all four years of the course. We are the first Australian university to be awarded a seven-year accreditation.

A Unique Learning Environment

The School of Physiotherapy provides students with a unique environment in which to learn. Studies include physical, biological, medical, behavioural and physiotherapy clinical sciences.

For subjects that have practical components, theoretical considerations are presented in lectures, seminars and tutorials and normally precede practical classes. We use Problem Based Learning (PBL), a method of small group teaching, to facilitate learning and introduce clinical reasoning.

Clinical studies begin in Year 1 with students allocated to teaching hospitals for one afternoon a fortnight and continue throughout the course, with Years 3 and 4 spending much of their time in the clinical setting.
