Master of Sports Medicine (by Research)

The aim of the degree is to contribute to the advancement of sports medicine knowledge through academic and clinically based research.  The program provides supervised postgraduate training in research aimed at increasing a candidate’s knowledge and understanding of the research process; and provides candidates with the opportunity to develop, undertake and present a substantive independent research project.

This degree is offered through the Centre for Health Exercise and Sports Medicine (CHESM) which is one of the research centres of the School of Physiotherapy.

Course structure

Students work throughout their candidature under the supervision of one or more staff members on a research topic that is subsequently reported in the form of a 30,000 word thesis.  The degree is awarded on the basis of examination of the thesis.  The Centre for Health Exercise and Sports Medicine (CHESM) can offer supervision in a range of research areas

Entry requirements

Applicants must hold an appropriate qualification in medicine, dentistry, physiotherapy, psychology, podiatry, a relevant field of science or related health science. Applicants will normally have an honours degree or an average of at least 70% or higher. Both local and international applicants will need to meet English language requirements.
