The Department of Physiotherapy's graduate and postgraduate programs are approved by the University of Melbourne Council via a multi-staged rigorous process. As a professional discipline, our programs are also approved by external bodies. The Doctor of Physiotherapy program has been accredited by the Australian Physiotherapy Council. Postgraduate coursework programs are evaluated by the Australian Physiotherapy Association.
Accreditation
To gain accreditation for a program through the Australian Physiotherapy Council, an institution must demonstrate that graduates fullfill all requirements for registration as a physiotherapist in Australia. For more information see Australian Physiotherapy Council website.

Doctor of Physiotherapy (entry to practice degree)
The Doctor of Physiotherapy (DPT) is a three year graduate program taught at Masters level that builds on specific prerequisite knowledge in anatomy and physiology acquired at an undergraduate level. The DPT at the University of Melbourne was developed following significant consultation with physiotherapists and leaders in the public, private health and research sectors both nationally and internationally.
The three year course has been designed to deliver advanced clinical and academic training. At the heart of the Doctor of Physiotherapy is an emphasis on multi-disciplinary teaching in a research led environment. We work with our outstanding clinical partners to provide excellent practical training. We promote opportunities for overseas clinical experience while completing the DPT program to provide depth of understanding in global health care.
