Musculoskeletal Research Program
Program leader: Professor Kim Bennell
Program Overview:
Musculoskeletal disease is a major cause of pain and disability across the lifespan and is one of the Government’s priority health areas. Our research is focused on chronic musculoskeletal conditions including osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, patellofemoral pain and shoulder pain. These conditions impose a substantial burden on the affected individual and on society.
We are currently investigating biomechanical and neuromuscular factors contributing to the development and perpetuation of these conditions as well as evaluating the effectiveness of interventions particularly non-pharmacological conservative treatments such as exercise and physiotherapy.
