Offices

The Centre for Health, Exercise and Sports Medicine (CHESM) occupies a dedicated two-storey building on the edge of the Parkville campus of the University of Melbourne, just north of the Melbourne CBD.

The building has office space for approximately 30 staff, postgraduate students and visiting researchers on the first floor, and a movement research laboratory on the ground floor.

Movement Research Laboratory

CHESM houses a newly-built, state-of-the-art movement research laboratory under the supervision of a full time Director. The laboratory has the following equipment:

  • Vicon 612 six M2 camera motion analysis system with Workstation, Polygon and BodyBuilder software
  • Three AMTI force platforms with NetForce software
  • Two Kistler portable force platforms with Bioware software
  • Cambridge Electronic Design amplification and data acquisition system with Spike software
  • Fine wire and surface EMG
  • KinCom 125AP isokinetic dynamometer
  • Chattecx balance system
  • Isometric back strength dynamometer
  • Digitimer DS7H constant current stimulator (interpolated twitch torque)
  • Noraxon Telemyo 8-channel EMG telemetry
  • Dornier/Acoustic Imaging Performa ultrasound scanner
  • Amlab data acquisition system (EMG timing)
  • Crossbow triaxial accelerometer
  • Stratec pQCT (peripheral quantitative computed tomography) for human (XCT 3000) and small animal bone (XCT Research SA+)
  • Medical Graphics Exercise Metabolic Measurement System
  • Harpenden anthropometry set
  • Mechanical and electronic workshop
