Women's Health Research Group Overview
The focus of this group’s research is the investigation of various aspects of the management of pelvic floor dysfunction in different populations. Pelvic floor disorders are a costly community problem which have both a physical and psychological impact on sufferers. Conservative treatment for pelvic floor dysfunction by physiotherapists is becoming first line management. Our major research priorities are investigating the use of real-time ultrasound in imaging the pelvic floor for measurement and biofeedback, treatment of incontinence in women with chronic lung disease, the use of exercise classes in the treatment of incontinence and the role of pre and post-operative physiotherapy in gynaecological surgery.
